Artist Statement

Jens Clausen is a German artist who has lived and worked in Norway for the last 25 years. Having studied goldsmithing in Hanau, Germany and after that working in Frankfurt and Geneva, with their long tradition of metalworking and work practices, has left a strong mark on his work.  Accuracy, clean line, correctness – he has absorbed these qualities, appropriated them and now uses them in his own particular way.

In Clausen´s work, the thing that is missing is vanity. The minimalist, geometrical forms of his jewellery might cause the viewer to approach carefully - to seek a distance. The work appears strong and serious but in their simplicity there is a hidden world of lines and curves, rhythms, single fleeting reflections and a variety of surfaces which all fulfil their role perfectly. They come together as a whole, which lives its own life, often in a tempo unnoticeable to us.
